Final Fantasy XIV coming to Nintendo Switch 2 later this year, Square Enix reveals
Will you switch 2 the Switch 2?

Final Fantasy XIV will be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 consoles later this year, it has been announced.
The reveal came as part of the keynote speech at this weekend's Fan Fest 2026 celebrations in Anaheim.
To make the announcement, Square Enix president Takashi Kiyru took to the stage, stating that, "We are so happy to announce that you will be able to play Final Fantasy Online on Nintendo Switch 2."
The game is set to launch on the console later this year following a brief test period, with Kiyru noting, "We currently plan to launch the Switch 2 version in August. But to make sure that our servers are stable, we'll be starting with a short early access period of about a month."
Players will also be pleased to learn that a Nintendo Switch Online membership, something typically required to play any online games on Switch consoles, will not be needed to play the game on the Switch 2.

The game has been available on console from launch, releasing on PS3 as well as PC way back in 2013.
This is the very first time that the game has been made available on a Nintendo console, however, with neither the Wii U nor original Nintendo Switch having ports.
In fact, Final Fantasy XIV only came to Xbox consoles in 2024, however, with the game debuting on Xbox Series X/S.
Unfortunately, the game will not be launching on the original Switch, likely because the console will not have the power to support future updates, with Square Enix set to end PS4 support in two years for similar reasons.
It has been a strong Fan Fest so far for Square Enix, with the next expansion for the game, Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold, officially revealed with an early 2027 release window.
