A new big screen reboot of iconic Angela Lansbury TV series Murder, She Wrote will be arriving in cinemas in time for Christmas next year – after a 22 December 2027 release date was confirmed by Universal.

The film will see Oscar-winner and Halloween icon Jamie Lee Curtis take over the role of amateur sleuth Jessica Fletcher from the legendary Lansbury, who played the role for 12 seasons between 1984 and 1996 and passed away aged 96 in 2022.

Precise plot details for the movie have not been revealed at this stage, but it seems safe to assume we can expect to see Curtis's version of Fletcher putting her crime solving instincts to good use in the fictional New England town of Cabot Cove.

The film is set to be directed by Pitch Perfect's Jason Moore from a script by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo (Dumb Money) while Phil Lord and Christopher Miller – whose sci-fi adventure Project Hail Mary is currently ruling the box office – are serving as producers on the project.

Curtis previously spoke about taking on the role Lansbury originated, saying: "Obviously, there is nothing... no one is gonna touch Angela. There's just no one that's gonna touch her, but I will bring my own curiosity."

She also told Entertainment Tonight that she was "very excited" about the project, although she added "I’m tamping down my enthusiasm until we start shooting".

"I have a couple of other things to hustle, but then I’ll get to enjoy that work," she said.

We'll be on the lookout for any further updates in the coming weeks, especially details on who might be joining Curtis in the cast. We'd expect to see a couple of big names!
