Happy Gilmore 2 finally gets Rotten Tomatoes score after wave of reviews for Adam Sandler sequel
How has the sequel been received?
Almost 30 years on from the first Happy Gilmore film, Adam Sandler's titular golfing prodigy is back, this time on Netflix.
In the sequel, Happy decides to pick up his gold club once more so that he can pay for his daughter Vienna to go to ballet school. But he's lost his mojo and he's competing against a new generation of golfing talent, so it won't be easy.
But how has the film, around which there was considerable buzz ahead of its arrival, been received?
At the time of writing on Saturday 26th July, the film has a Tomatometer score of 65% from 43 views – which, while far from knockout, isn't bad.
But the film did fare better on the Popcornmeter, with 74% from more than 1,000 ratings.
Speaking to RadioTimes.com about making the film, Sandler said that he'd enjoyed thinking about where life had taken all of the characters during the past three decades.
"We were writing the movie, me and [co-writer] Tim Herlihy, and then out of nowhere, we were like... I think we should watch the first one again!" he said, having forgotten much of what unfolded in its first outing.
"Kids come up to me on the street over the years, and they mention something. I'd be like, 'What happened?' And so we watched the movie again. And then we go, 'Oh yeah!' and got excited talking about everything, talking about everybody.”
Christopher McDonald, by contrast, who has reprised his role as Happy's rival Shooter McGavin, was still well acquainted with all of the comings and goings.
"I watched it once a week for about 52 years," he joked. "I'm a fan, and I do a lot of Cameos, I like dealing with the fans, so I kind of [became] Ambassador about this whole thing!"
Other actors who have reprised their roles include Julie Bowen, who plays former public relations director and Happy's love interest Virginia Venit, and Ben Stiller, who plays retirement home orderly Hal L, who now runs a support group.

The cast is also stacked with cameos from across the worlds of sport and entertainment, including Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Bad Bunny, Margaret Qualley, Eric André, Travis Celce and Eminem.
