Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

This grisly adventure stars Stanley Weber as a prince out for bloody revenge in England in the years after the Battle of Hastings. It's about as straightforward a film as you are ever likely to see - Weber's Shadow Walker is out for vengeance (with a sword), and that's about as much plot development as the film chooses to include. As for the rest, it's a succession of gruesome fights, with enough eye-gouging and throat-slitting to make it seem more like one long, senseless action scene than a coherent story. Weber has leading-man looks, but his sullen medieval Superman says little and does little, other than dispatch numbers of snarling villains in elaborate ways. There is a brutal simplicity to the action that will appeal to some, but in terms of non-violent content Sword of Vengeance seems stretched even for a relatively short film.
