The Empyrean series book 4: Release date speculation and latest news
Everything you need to know about the next Empyrean novel.

Having just been released earlier this year, Onyx Storm continued the Empyrean series in suitably dramatic fashion, gripping readers with its romantic fantasy.
Following dragon rider Violet, Onyx Storm is the third novel in the book series, coming after Fourth Wing and Iron Flame.
The Empyrean series itself is set to consist of five books in total, with Rebecca Yarros's latest instalment leaving plenty of burning questions among fans who are wishing the next novel to come sooner rather than later.
However, Yarros has been forthright in the fact that she'll be taking a break from writing the next Empyrean novel, with fans continuing to wonder just when we can see the next book on our shelves.
So, when will the fourth book in the Empyrean series be released? Read on for everything we know so far.
The Empyrean series book 4 release date speculation

As of now, there is no confirmed release date for the fourth novel in the the Empyrean series.
Although a Goodreads page previously listed the publication date for 1st January 2026, author Yarros has since put those rumours to rest.
Taking to her Instagram Stories at the time, she said: "Let me put this rumor to rest. I love you all, but no. That release date is impossible."
Yarros has been upfront about her health struggles and living with a chronic illness, so, naturally, the author has stated that there is a need to rest between her novels.
Speaking to Elle on the release of Onyx Storm, she said: "I’ve been really clear that I’m going to rest now.
"I drove my body to a place that was untenable, and I knew it, and my family knew it, and my husband knew it, and it shouldn’t have happened. I shouldn’t have allowed it to happen."
While Fourth Wing was released in April 2023, Iron Flame in October 2023 and Onyx Storm in January 2025, Yarros has said that she will instead be turning her time to writing a contemporary novel for now.
So, we'll just have to wait and see when the fourth Empyrean novel will be released – but something tells us it won't be for a while yet.
Does The Empyrean series book 4 have a title?
Not yet – the fourth book in the series remains untitled for now, but watch this space.
We do know that there will be a total of five novels in The Empyrean series, though, so there's plenty more to look forward to.
What has Rebecca Yarros said about The Empyrean series book 4?
Speaking previously at an event in Los Angeles to promote Onyx Storm, Yarros shared some teasers about the fourth novel, saying: "Someone you love won't make it in book four."
The detail isn't all that surprising, given the fact that characters have died throughout all novels, but as for which beloved character may die, we'll just have to wait and see.
Yarros also revealed her playlist for the fourth novel at an event in February, sticking to the pattern the author has of having a playlist per novel.

This time around, Yarros's playlist consists largely of Taylor Swift's The Tortured Poets Department, hinting at the fact that Violet may be struggling to navigate feelings she has for someone she thinks is wrong for her.
While we may not have a release date or concrete details about the book yet, fans continue to admire Yarros for the way she includes her audience and readership through subtle hints like the above.
What could happen in The Empyrean series book 4?
Seeing as Onyx Storm left on quite the cliffhanger, there's certainly plenty of material to lean on in the fourth book. Things ended on quite a confusing note for Violet, who woke up after a vicious battle to find her dragon Andarana watching over her.
But Violet not only wakes up confused about her new wedding ring or her marriage to Xaden Riorson, she can't remember the last 12 hours at all. Her friend Imogen reveals in the book's final line that she wiped Violet's memory of the night at her request – but why? And what exactly happened?
That's not all, though, as Violet's brother Brennan also broke the news to her that six dragon eggs and four riders were missing, including Violet's new husband Xaden and his best friend Garrick.
We'd expect the fourth book to examine the events of the 12 hours that Violet's forgotten, what happened with Xaden and, also, what happened to the missing eggs and riders.
Yarros previously shared some clues about the identity of Xaden's new venin brother, saying: "I would pay attention to who's missing at the end. I would pay attention to someone who feels like whatever they have given is not enough, which is always the case when you turn venin."
