A Belgian airman serving with Britain's RAF returns to his homeland to retrieve a buried flag holding great sentimental value. Fact-based Second World War adventure, starring Clive Brook, Clifford Evans, Jane Baxter and Philip Friend
Scripted by Jill Craigie for director husband Jeffrey Dell, this is a flagwaver in every sense of the word. Determined to commemorate Philip Friend's death in the Battle of Britain, exiled Belgian pilot Clifford Evans returns to his pal's farm in order to retrieve the Belgian Air Force flag that he buried before their escape from the advancing Wehrmacht. The romance between Evans and Friend's daughter, Jane Baxter, proves an unnecessary distraction, but this is a laudably restrained fact-based reminder of the unbreakable bond between Britain and occupied Europe.
