Naomi Watts brings far too much star power to a daft and contrived psychodrama that's a rainy-day hoot rather than must-see big-screen entertainment. Here she plays a clinical psychologist who's in self-imposed isolation following the crash that killed her husband and left her teenage stepson homebound with locked-in syndrome, but then finds herself "haunted" by what appears to be the sights and sounds of a missing child. As a snowstorm builds outside her New England home, the trapped widow goes quietly ga-ga. Or does she? Jam-packed with more jump-out-of-your-skin bits than you can shake several sticks at, Shut In is overwrought, cliché-ridden and often downright silly. It's more likely to have the viewer giggling in disbelief than gasping with shock. But it also constitutes something of a guilty pleasure.
