An Emmerdale character made their temporary exit on Thursday (7th August 2025), leaving one family upset after an eventful day led to the impulsive decision.

Love was in the air for Steph Miligan (Georgia Jay) and Ross Barton (Michael Parr), who had recently reignited their relationship after months apart.

At the time of their split, Steph's trauma led her to suffer a breakdown, and she left Ross heartbroken when she called time on their romance.

However, soon after, Ross ended up having a night of passion with Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker).

He was embarrassed afterwards, and with Steph's adoptive dad Caleb (William Ash) having urged Ross to wait for Steph, the fling remained under wraps.

Unfortunately, Manpreet didn't realise that Ross and Steph were now back together.

So, when she joined Steph's mum Ruby (Beth Cordingly) and Ross's half-brother, new café co-owner Lewis Barton (Bradley Riches), for a gossip, the truth came out.

Poor Steph was hurt when she found out; not because of the fling itself during their time apart, but because Ross had only just claimed there had been no other woman during their break.

With star Jay due to take a planned screen-break, this paved the way for Steph making a quick exit from the village.

You'll have to tune in via ITVX now for the full story, or catch the hour-long episode at 7.30pm on ITV1.

We're expecting her back at some point, but might Steph give Ross another chance when their paths cross again? Or does this mark a permanent end to their connection?

Next week, Ruby is set for a furious showdown with Manpreet after witnessing something else that gives her cause for anger, and both women face arrest as a result of their feud.

What exactly has the local doctor been up to now?
