Marvel Animation's latest series is headed to Disney Plus next month and sets out to reveal the history of one of the MCU's most iconic locations: Wakanda.

The fictional country has been home to generations of the Black Panther, a mantle most recently held by King T'Challa (the late Chadwick Boseman) and his sister, Shuri (Letitia Wright), who will be reappearing in next year's Avengers: Doomsday.

Ahead of that epic blockbuster comes Eyes of Wakanda, a four-part animated miniseries that takes us on a whistle-stop tour of the nation's history, focusing particularly on a rivalry between a secret agent and a warlord defector.

The long-in-development project has also drummed up attention with its promise to integrate Iron Fist lore back into the MCU – by featuring an incarnation of the character from the distant past (in other words, not Finn Jones's Danny Rand).

Like Ironheart before it, Eyes of Wakanda is executive produced by superstar filmmaker Ryan Coogler (Sinners), who is in no small part responsible for turning Marvel's Black Panther franchise into a global phenomenon.

If your interest is piqued, read on for everything you need to know about Marvel's Eyes of Wakanda, which is coming very soon to Disney Plus.

Eyes of Wakanda release date

Marvel's Eyes of Wakanda will be available to stream on Disney Plus from Friday 1st August 2025.

The series has jumped around the calendar a fair bit, with a sizzle reel from last year announcing a premiere date of 6th August, which was later postponed to 27th August – only to eventually be brought forward to the very start of the month.

Interestingly, the last of those release date changes came with very short notice, giving fans only one week to clear their viewing calendars for the Marvel miniseries. All four episodes will be released at once.

Eyes of Wakanda plot: What is it about?

Marvel's Eyes of Wakanda is set to detail the epic history of the home nation of the Black Panther, as well as showing us corners of the country that have yet gone unexplored in the live-action films.

Showrunner Todd Harris explained (via Entertainment Weekly): "My goal for the whole show was to do the thing that a movie has trouble doing, which is making the world bigger.

"It is a nation with multiple zip codes. It was mostly just expanding the backdrop of the world that Ryan was able to establish, with just a little bit more time and a few more opportunities at the watering hole."

Harris added: "These things have been around for this long... really spreading out the mythology of Wakanda."

The official synopsis, courtesy of Marvel.com, teases that Eyes of Wakanda "follows the adventures of brave Wakandan warriors throughout history".

It continues: "In this globe-trotting adventure, the heroes must carry-out dangerous missions to retrieve Vibranium artefacts from the enemies of Wakanda. They are the Hatut Zaraze and this is their story."

Although it doesn't appear that Eyes of Wakanda will feature any established MCU characters, the series will re-introduce the mantle of the Iron Fist after a long absence – introducing us to an incarnation who pre-dates Danny Rand (Finn Jones).
