Doctor Who star Matt Lucas has given Russell T Davies an idea for Nardole's return
Could the doomed companion make a comeback?

Doctor Who star Matt Lucas is gunning for his character Nardole to return, revealing he's given showrunner Russell T Davies a story idea to use.
The Little Britain star is known for playing the cyborg Nardole, an employee of River Song (Alex Kingston) and then a companion of the Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi).
We last saw Nardole in The Doctor Falls, which revealed that he would be stuck on a colony ship infested with Mondasian Cybermen, set to gallantly protect the humans on board indefinitely (although a later novelisation of Twice Upon a Time gave a much happier view of Nardole's life on the ship, detailing that he lived to be 728 and enjoyed his life on the ship with his six wives).
During a recent appearance on Matt Lucas and David Walliams's podcast Making a Scene, Davies suggested Nardole will not be making a return, telling Lucas: "You're kind of doomed. I worry about Nardole being left there because the Cybermen are on their way."

However, Lucas added: "You have the power. I won't give it away but I did give you an idea for Nardole, didn't I?"
"You did! A very nice idea," Davies replied, with Lucas saying: "It was something kind of interesting. I don't want to say what it is in case it ever [happens]."
Considering Nardole's fate, we wouldn't expect a return anytime soon - although there's always the possibility that Lucas could make a comeback as a different character in the show.
Nardole first appeared in the 2015 Christmas special, before returning for season 10 as a fully-fledged companion alongside Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie).
Walliams had also previously appeared in Doctor Who, as Gibbis in the season 6 episode The God Complex.
Doctor Who is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
