Rumours are intensifying about which famous faces could be headed to the Scottish Highlands for the second season of The Celebrity Traitors, with academic Hannah Fry thought to be in the running.

The Sun has reported that the mathematician and broadcaster is the latest name to sign up for the new episodes, with filming said to begin this weekend.

Hannah Fry is a mathematician and broadcaster, and is currently professor of the public understanding of mathematics at the University of Cambridge.

She has made a string of television shows in recent years, including The Secret Genius of Modern Life, The Future with Hannah Fry and this year's AI Confidential with Hannah Fry.

A spokesperson for the BBC told Radio Times: "We are not commenting on speculation and details for The Celebrity Traitors series 2 will be announced in due course."

Fry is the latest name to join the speculated list of who could take part in the new season, with the likes of Michael Sheen, Cheryl and Steve Pemberton all rumoured to have been approached about the series.

Someone who definitely won't be taking part, however, is Criminal Record star Peter Capaldi, who explained that he wouldn't want the extra attention that came with the show.

"I think there's a level of fame that… I think it propels you into the public eye, at a level of exposure that I don’t really want," he told the BBC's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg.

"I like doing, you know, it’s like doing my music things – it’s very difficult for people in that business to understand that you want to keep it small."

Fellow actor James Nesbitt also revealed that he turned down the chance to take part in the next Celebrity Traitors, admitting that he was "too scared" after the success of last year's run.

During an appearance on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show, Nesbitt said: "When I was asked, because I was in at the BBC, and I went, 'Oh, sounds amazing.'

"Then I spoke to my agent and he said no. Because I just thought, 'How do I follow that?' It was so brilliant."

Celebrity Traitors season 2 is coming to BBC One later this year. Season 1 is available to watch now on iPlayer.
