Silent Witness season 29 start date confirmed by BBC with first look at major change for series

The BBC has revealed when we can expect Silent Witness season 29 to land on our screens, while new images have given fans a first look at the show’s new setting.

The new instalment of the series, which will welcome Dr Nikki Alexander (Emilia Fox), Jack (David Caves) back onto our screens as they’re tasked with a new batch of complex cases, will begin airing on Monday 2nd February on BBC One and iPlayer.

Season 29 has relocated from London to Birmingham, and the first-look images (above and below) show the cast in action in their new surroundings.

Nikki and Jack will be joined by returning characters Harriet (Maggie Steed) and Kit (Fran Mills) in the new instalment, while there'll also be plenty of new guest stars, including Lydia Wilson (Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue), Chris Reilly (Slow Horses), Ben Batt (Riot Women), Vinette Robinson (Boiling Point) and Selin Hizli (Am I Being Unreasonable?).

Also appearing in the guest cast will be Gerard Kearns (Waiting For The Out) Adam Rayner (Superman and Lois), Phaldut Sharma (EastEnders), Dino Fetscher (Fool Me Once), Cat Simmons (The Bill, Family Affairs), Chris Coghill (Slow Horses) and Mollie Winnard (All Creatures Great and Small).

Silent Witness season 28 came to an end back in February, with Nikki and Jack finally tying the knot.

The previous season also saw Nikki agreeing to set up a new forensic centre of excellence based out of Birmingham General Hospital, but only if Harriet Maven (Maggie Steed) remained in charge.

With Harriet featuring on the first-look image above, it looks like the Home Office have accepted Nikki's terms.
