X Factor winners Little Mix, Benidorm’s Sheila Reid, presenter Lorraine Kelly and Liz Dawn, who played the legendary Vera Duckworth, are to make an appearance in a special episode of Coronation Street.
The episode, which is based on Charles Dickens’ classic tale A Christmas Carol, is in aid of ITV’s Christmas fundraising appeal Text Santa.
Liz Dawn played Vera Duckworth between 1974 and 2008, and although she left the soap when her character died peacefully in her sleep, she has already returned once for an appearance as a ghost so it’s anyone’s guess what state she’ll be in…
Little Mix will be performing during the episode while both Sheila Reid and daybreak presenter Lorraine Kelly will appear in the soap as a police women.
Lorraine said: “I am absolutely beside myself, I am a massive fan of Corrie and have been since I was a little girl – it’s always been an ambition of mine to appear.” She went on to add: “Obviously I am not an actress, so I’ll try and learn my lines and will hopefully try and bumble through it, but I’m surrounded by professionals so it should be fine.”
The special episode will be screened during this year’s Text Santa show on 21 December. The programme will be hosted by ITV favourites Ant & Dec, Holly Willoughby, Philip Schofield, Christine Bleakley and Paddy McGuinness. All money raised by the event will be spilt evenly between charities Age UK, Anthony Nolan, Carers UK, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Together for Short Lives and Whizz-Kidz.
