Spring’s anime line-up has another romcom contender on its hands, as Gals Can't Be Kind to Otaku!? has now made its debut on screens, with each episode in its schedule now dropping on specific release dates.

Based on the manga by Norishiro-chan and Sakana Uozumi, the series follows shy otaku Takuya Seo, whose quiet school life is disrupted when two very different gals from his class start taking an interest in him. Crunchyroll confirmed ahead of launch that it would stream the anime, which premiered on 8th April 2026.

That gives fans a new weekly romance comedy to keep an eye on, bringing the manga’s mix of awkward school comedy, shared geek interests, and the usual gal-and-loner misunderstandings to life.

What’s the plot of Gals Can't Be Kind to Otaku!?

Just like the manga, the anime adaptation of Gals Can't Be Kind to Otaku!? centres on on Takuya Seo, a reserved high school boy who tries not to draw attention to the fact that he’s an otaku.

That becomes much harder when classmates Kei Amane and Kotoko Ijichi start talking to him, pulling him into an unexpected school-life romcom built around shared hobbies and clashing social circles.

Compared to the male protagonist, Amane is cool but a little odd, while Ijichi is much more cheerful and physically close in the way she interacts with Seo. Together, the trio’s relationship develops through anime fandom and overlapping interests, which is where the show seems likely to find most of its comedy and charm.
