Smith was the publisher of Charlotte and Anne Brontë's novels, and is thought to have inspired the character of Graham Bretton in Charlotte's novel Villette.

Where do you know him from?

Newberry is best known for portraying sentient zombie Kieren Walker in BBC3's In the Flesh, and has since appeared in Suspects, Into Darkness and Banana.

Where do you know him from?

Frost has played Tom Carne, father of Eleanor Tomlinson’s Demelza, in both series of BBC Drama Poldark, and has also recently appeared in Prey, New Blood, Stella, New Tricks and Silent Witness.


June Watson: Tabitha “Tabby” Ackroyd

Who does she play?

The cook-housekeeper at Haworth Parsonage, Tabitha was a loyal servant to the Brontë family for decades, and potentially inspired the character of Nelly Dean in Emily’s Wuthering Heights.

Where do you know her from?

Watson has recently appeared in BBC3’s Thirteen, Agatha Raisin, Unforgotten, A Song for Jenny and Holby City, and starred in 102 Dalmations as a Prison Warden in 2000.


William Smith Williams: Hugh Simon

Who does he play?

William Smith Williams was the literary reader and joint owner – with George Smith, above – of Charlotte's publisher, Smith, Elder & Co, and recognised the talent in her first novel The Professor, even though he rejected it. His rejection letter was so king it encouraged Charlotte to try again, and she produced Jane Eyre.

Simon is best known for playing tech operative Malcolm in BBC spy series Spooks, and has recently appeared in The Mill, Endeavour and In the Club. He played Dr Paul in Rowan Atkinson drama Maigret's Dead Men four days ago on Christmas Day.
