Meet John Watson Dr John Watson is Sherlock's best friend, sometime flatmate and partner in crime-solving, as well as the man who tells the world about Sherlock's cases via his blog. Superficially a steady, down-to-earth type, John has been revealed to be something of a danger junkie, who unconsciously surrounds himself with "psychopaths" like Sherlock and his wife Mary, a former special ops agent.

What else has Martin Freeman been in? Following his breakthrough role as exasperated everyman Tim Canterbury in The Office, Martin Freeman carved out a niche for himself in a string of variable British film comedies like Ali G Indahouse, Love, Actually, Confetti and Nativity!, as well as playing Arthur Dent in 2005’s troubled big screen version of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. He also returned to TV comedy in two series of the ITV sitcom Hardware.
