JFK's grandson hits out at Ryan Murphy's Kennedy drama series American Love Story
The new series explores JFK Jr and Carolyn Bessette's love story.

Ryan Murphy has his eyes set on a new romantic drama involving the Kennedy family, and has once again faced criticism from the family of those involved.
Murphy hasn't been a stranger to outrage from the families of those he includes in his work, with both seasons of Netflix's Monster coming under fire, initially from the families of Jeffrey Dahmer's victims and then, more recently, from the Menendez family.
Well, this time around, Murphy's upcoming American Love Story anthology series has been called out by JFK Jr's nephew Jack Schlossberg.
The series itself is set to chronicle love stories that captured the world's attention, with the first season centring on the relationship between John F Kennedy Jr and Carolyn Bessette.
Leading the series as JFK Jr and Carolyn are Paul Kelly and Sarah Pidgeon, but Schlossberg and Murphy have been locked in a growing online feud after Schlossberg revealed that his family had never been consulted at any point of the production.
Last month, Schlossberg had taken to his Instagram Stories and wrote of the series: "I hope those making this show about him take seriously what he stood for in his life, all that he achieved in it, and that they donate some of the profits [from] what they’re making to the John F Kennedy Library.
"For the record, I think admiration for my uncle John is great. What I don’t think is great is profiting off of it in a grotesque way."
Since then, Murphy alluded to Schlossberg's comments while speaking on the This Is Gavin Newsom podcast, saying that he thought it was an "odd choice to be mad about your relative that you really don’t remember".
"The thing I was not prepared for was the Kennedy firestorm, which I thought was very strange because nobody's read anything," he explained. "It's very sympathetic, it's a love story. It's not a takedown.
"I took it with a grain of salt – it's a younger generation. But I will say, there have been over 88 movies and television shows about the Kennedys – not one has ever been authorised by the family. I never even thought they wanted to do that."

Now, Schlossberg has taken to his social media to urge Murphy to "say it to my face", continuing: "My earliest memories are of John calling me Jackolatern [sic] and ‘the nudist’, picking me up from school, his Pontiac convertible.
"I remember being the ring bearer at his wedding and the day he died. I remember Wyclef [Jean] singing at his funeral."

He continued: "More memories are passed down from stories —like the time he locked himself out of a car in an intersection and asked the guy screaming at him if he could borrow a golf club to smash the window to get the keys, and then did it.
"You’re making millions off John, making a public spectacle of it but won’t contribute any of your riches to the causes he championed, or the legacy of public service he represented."
Despite Schlossberg's grievances, the cog that is the television machine will continue to rumble on, and so American Love Story continues to eye up an early 2026 release date on FX.

As well as Kelly and Pidgeon leading the series, the cast also includes Naomi Watts as Jackie O, Grace Gummer as Caroline Kennedy, Sydney Lemmon as Lauren Bessette, Alessandro Nivola as Calvin Klein and Omari K Chancellor as Gordon Henderson.
The series will, of course, centre on the love story between JFK Jr and Carolyn, who married in 1996 and were very much considered to be American royalty at the time, with their romance captivating the nation.
The series is reported to chronicle the pair's story from their first meeting in 1992 right through to their tragic plane crash deaths in 1999.
American Love Story is coming soon.
