There's a newcomer to Virgin River this season, and he brings plenty of secrets along with him.

Season 7 of the beloved cosy drama is now out on Netflix, and introduces viewers to the tough and athletic Clay, someone who certainly gets noticed when he enters a room.

And while he most definitely grabs the attention of one Virgin River resident, there is a shroud of secrecy surrounding Clay as it becomes clear he is hiding something...

Played by Cody Kearsley (Detective Knight, Breach), Clay is on a mission to find his sister while in Virgin River, but does he manage to find her?

If you're keen for answers and want to know more about what secrets Clay is hiding, read on to find out.

Clay is a new resident in Virgin River who makes quite the first impression by getting into a fight at Jack's Bar.

He eventually smoothes things over when he explains he had told the other man in the bar to leave a woman alone, but when he didn't, things escalated. Clay then asked Jack if there were any jobs going and thanks to him needing extra hands with the horses, Jack hired him on the spot.

While handy on the ranch, it soon becomes clear that Clay is hiding a secret as he stashes wads of cash beneath the floorboards on Jack's property.

Netflix had previously revealed that Clay had experience working the rodeo circuit and had grown up in foster care with his younger sister, whom he hasn’t seen since he was a teenager, and has been looking for her ever since.

Why is Clay hiding money in Jack and Mel's ranch?

As the series progresses, we see Clay return to retrieve the money, but he is greeted by Jack and Mel who grow concerned that he is on the ranch late and night and had been in yet another fight.

While Clay brushes off their concern, the following day Jack presses him for more information when Clay says he can no longer work in Virgin River.

Clay explained that the night before he was followed home by two men and they jumped him. The month before, Clay had borrowed money from someone he knew during his rodeo days, someone who had made a lot of money betting on him and he wanted his money back.

Clay then told Jack he had spent most of the money trying to find his sister Layla and he only had a bag full of cash left - the same cash he had been hiding on the ranch.

Does Clay find his sister?

Despite several mentions of his pursuit to try and find his sister, Clay does not find her in season 7 of Virgin River, but the wheels are certainly in motion.

After growing closer with Brie, Clay explains his predicament and she assures him she'll be able to help whichever way she can.

However not much happens after that, so we can only assume this storyline will continue in season 8.
