The iconic children’s television programme, which originally aired from 2002 to 2005 and centres on a fictional small island community off the west coast of Scotland, will be making a comeback to CBeebies on Monday 20 April.

The release date news comes after the broadcaster previously unveiled a first look at the new and returning cast for the brand new series.

Original cast members Julie Wilson Nimmo (Miss Hoolie), Andrew Agnew (PC Plum), Kim Tserkezie (Penny Pocket) and Juliet Cadzow (Edie McCredie) are all returning.

Meanwhile, new addictions to the cast include scientist and inventor Ava Potts (Danielle Jam), local vet Dr Ollie (Carl Spencer) who lives with his two children, and the Harbour Master (William Andrews).

Miss Hoolie icon Nimmo recently revealed to Radio Times magazine that she had some concerns about the passage of time while filming the brand new series.

Speaking about how filming a scene which mirrored one she shot for the original made her "really emotional", she explained: "I was worried about being old and feeling old, but then I got a good talking to from one of the producers, who said, 'That’s the end of that.' She’s right."

She continued: "It’s great to be represented on screen. I’ve grown so much as an actor and as a person in that time."

It was announced in 2024 that the beloved show would return for at least two seasons.

Kate Morton, head of commissioning 0-6 for BBC Children's and Education, said at the time: "It’s wonderful to see some of the original cast returning alongside new faces, creating a perfect mix of nostalgia and discovery for families to enjoy together.

"This vibrant new series will delight both children and the grown-ups who remember it fondly."

Balamory will air on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer on Monday 20 April, 2026.
