Summary

American drama set in Atlantic City, New Jersey, at the dawn of the Prohibition era in the 1920s, when the sale of alcohol was made illegal. Atlantic City's treasurer Enoch `Nucky" Thompson (Steve Buscemi) is equally comfortable as a politician and gangster. Along with his brother Eli (Shea Whigham), the town's sheriff, and a crew of local thugs, Nucky is the man to see for illegal alcohol. It begins with Nucky's former protege and driver Jimmy Darmody (Michael Pitt) returning home from the First World War and trying to reclaim what he thinks is his rightful place in Nucky's organisation. Created by Terence Winter, the executive producers include Martin Scorsese and Mark Wahlberg. Scorsese is also a member of the directing team. "Boardwalk Empire" premiered on Sky Atlantic in 2011 and ran for five seasons.
