Severance favourite joins Robert De Niro in first look at serial killer thriller as release date confirmed
Michelle Monaghan also stars in The Whisper Man.

Netflix has released some first-look images of upcoming serial killer film The Whisper Man – which sees Hollywood icon Robert De Niro star alongside Severance's Adam Scott and The White Lotus star Michelle Monaghan.
A streaming release date of Friday 28 August has also been revealed for the thriller, which is based on a bestselling 2019 novel of the same name by Alex North and will be directed by New Zealand director James Ashcroft (The Rule of Jenny Pen).
The synopsis for the film reads: "When his eight-year-old son is abducted, a widowed crime writer looks to his estranged father, a retired former police detective, for help, only to discover a connection with the decades-old case of a convicted serial killer known as The Whisper Man."

In the stills, we get a look at the characters played by Scott, Monaghan and De Niro, with one especially striking image (above) showing the former looking a little haunted as he is shielded by the other two.
Meanwhile, another image shows him accompanying his child – presumably before the abduction – while the other stills see Monaghan's character conducting what looks to be a search operation and Scott's character consulting a map.
Interestingly, this will be the second release of the year in which Scott plays a writer struggling though a difficult situation, after horror film Hokum, which arrives in UK cinemas this Friday (1 May).

In addition to the trio mentioned above, the cast also includes Hamish Linklater (Midnight Mass), Owen Teague (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes), child star Acston Luca Porto (Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado) and Will Brill (The OA).
The Whisper Man will be released on Netflix on Friday 28 August 2026.
