Summary

A distressing vision ushers Thor and rock-like warrior buddy Korg back to New Asgard, ruled by Valkyrie, where accursed Gorr the God Butcher lays a diabolical trap as part of his plan to slaughter all deities with the fabled Necrosword. Thor offers a robust defence alongside pre-eminent astrophysicist Jane Foster, who has taken on the guise of the Mighty Thor with magical hammer Mjolnir at her side. Marvel Studios' adventure comedy, starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale and Tessa Thompson

The last time we saw the Norse God of Thunder was in Avengers: Endgame, when he was about to rocket into space with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Following a whimsical recap from Thor's rock-buddy Korg, this fourth solo adventure finds the "space viking" (an effortless Chris Hemsworth) back to his muscular and lovably goofy best on a war-torn planet. But with news of Gorr the God Butcher slicing his way through a plethora of immortals, the rejuvenated hero decides to confront the villain with help from Asgardian comrade Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and powered-up ex Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi takes the reins again, but this time delivers more of a knockabout comedy than a full-throttle action adventure. There is plenty of heavy-metal spectacle, and a chalk-white Christian Bale oozes Joker-like menace as Gorr, but it's the tongue-in-cheek humour that sticks in the memory - such as Thor's Mjolnir-envy, a pair of screaming goats and one guest star's raucous turn as Zeus.
