The Archers fans react to departure of editor Sean O’Connor

There were predictably mixed feelings as the man who brought torrid affairs and big-scale disasters to the rural drama announced he would be returning to EastEnders

Sean O’Connor, editor of The Archers, is leaving Ambridge and heading back to Walford to take over the role of executive producer on EastEnders.

Having worked on the BBC soap before moving to the Radio 4 rural drama, O’Connor was something of a controversial figure among Archers’ fans, with some welcoming his exciting new storylines while others – including Radio Times TV editor Alison Graham – called them “soapy nonsense“.

Under O’Connor, there have been unprecedented affairs, altar jiltings, the return of major characters and action-packed disasters – most notably the notorious Ambridge Flood.

So as you might expect, there were mixed reactions to the news of his departure…
