As a journalist of many years standing, Yasmin Alibhai-Brown has reported on some tough subjects without a wobble or a flicker of emotion. Yet sitting talking to Jane, a Bristol woman who has not seen her only grandchild for four years and whose sense of loss is palpable and painful, brings Alibhai-Brown close to tears.
It is a sensitive interview and the subject matter — what is best for the child in cases such as these — is handled with dignity and intelligence.
