Benedict Cumberbatch joins forces with Matt Smith as Sherlock meets Doctor Who

Sherlock meets Doctor Who?! Sorry, no, it's not a special cross-over episode (although that's perhaps something for Steven Moffat to think about) but ever since Matt Smith reminded us in the new issue of Radio Times magazine that he once auditioned for the role of John Watson, we've been wondering just what that would look like.

"I thought my audition for Watson was very good," says Smith. "But clearly not good enough!

"Basically they looked at it and went, 'He's not Watson. It'd be like having two Sherlocks in the room.'"

They may well be right, but we had to know - and you can see the result of our Frankenstein-style experimentation above. What do you think? Dream come true or TV nightmare? I think it's so wrong it might just be right...
