Benedict Cumberbatch and Rebecca Hall in the first trailer for Parade’s End

Take a first glimpse at the BBC/HBO drama as it establishes the rocky relationship of its central characters

Turning their received pronunciation up to 11, Benedict Cumberbatch and Rebecca Hall take centre stage in the first trailer for new BBC2 drama Parade’s End.

Adapted from Ford Maddox Ford’s series of novels by playwright Sir Tom Stoppard, Parade’s End is a love triangle set against the backdrop of the First World War. Honourable aristocrat Christopher Tietjens (Cumberbatch), his wife Sylvia (Rebecca Hall) and young suffragette Valentine Wannop (Adelaide Clemens).

The new teaser establishes the characters of the Tietjens, with libertine Sylvia cavorting with suitors and wondering to herself: “suppose you could bolt with a new man every week, and no questions asked…” while Christopher explains that he stands for “monogamy and chastity”. But we all know those are not the ingredients of a love triangle…

A co-production between the BBC and HBO, Parade’s End features such stellar acting talent as Roger Allam, Rupert Everett and Stephen Graham among its cast, and begins on BBC2 on Friday 24 August.
