Episode 9: Episode 9
Summary
The remaining sewers take on three 1920s-inspired challenges in the hope of making it to the final. They begin by recreating the iconic plus fours, a staple of outdoor pursuits from the era, then go on to make modern, block-coloured garments from a selection of polo shirts, invented by tennis player René Lacoste. In the made-to-measure challenge, the semi-finalists embrace the revolutionary fashion of this iconic decade to make an outfit for a 1920s party
Review
Jane Rackham
There are only four sewers remaining in the competition, so it’s perhaps appropriate that the pattern challenge for 1920s week is to make plus fours. Although one person rather cockily greets the task by saying, “I know how to make trousers — I probably don’t even need a pattern,” it’s a challenge for even the most experienced stitcher.
The nightmares continue, as the made-to-measure challenge sees the sewers creating outfits suitable for a special occasion, such as a ball. There are two people who have consistently done well over the weeks and who I had pegged as potential winners — but after this round, I’m not so sure…
