    Battlestar Galactica

With series three of this fantastically adult sci-fi epic running in the US, the show's co-creator Ronald D Moore has resumed his famous "director's commentaries" on each week's episodes. Moore, the first TV exec to do a post-show podcast, shares his thoughts - concepts, performances, backstory - in between glugs of scotch and puffs on innumerable cigarettes.

As with the TV show, Moore is out to break new ground. He lays into episodes and scenes he thinks don't work. Fellow producers, actors and even "Mrs Ron" chip in on Moore's frank, fascinating and funny streams of consciousness. Other shows like Doctor Who and Stargate are doing their own director's podcast, but don't be fooled - this is the original and the best.

    Digital Production Buzz

In the 21st century everyone is in the movie business. You have a computer and a camera? You're in digital film production. Aussie digital film expert Phil Hodgetts's weekly podcast from Los Angeles takes on the semi-pros and the pros, interviewing the most interesting people making films at the moment, all the while bitching about the greed and shortsightedness of the modern business of show.

Recent guests include a producer talking about how just a cool title and a scary picture can get you a movie deal, a guy making successful puppet films in his closet and - of course! - the makers of the first Finnish-language Star Trek fan movie. You read it here first.

    Podcast 411

Pod people are strange. You don't realise exactly how strange till you hear them talking about what they do. Podcast 411 is the news channel and magazine programme for podcasters and features interviews with the hottest (they say) people broadcasting on the net.

Host Rob Walch has been around in podcasting since the prehistoric age, um, two years ago, and while it should be as dry as old toast, actually hearing these zany folks in person (ish) is a great way to discover new podcasts you might have otherwise have scrolled on past.

  • The Bitterest Pill

    The Bitterest Pill

Actor and comedian Dan Klass whines hilariously about his day-to-day life as a stay-at-home-dad in Los Angeles. His wife works and he's supposed to be an actor but spends all his time doing laundry instead of going to auditions.

Always funny, poignant and well observed, it's an off-the-cuff improvisation about the joys of being a father and husband. And don't just listen to one, take two and call us in the morning…it's a show that grows on you, so ask for a repeat prescription.
