The scales have fallen from Kim Tate's (Claire King) eyes in Emmerdale after making the realisation that DS Thea Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) is her daughter.

Last month, viewers became privy to the secret during a flashback scene that showed a younger Kim - achieved through archive footage - walking down a maternity ward and gazing at a newborn baby. Posters on the walls and contemporary technology revealed that the year was 1999.
That child would grow up to be the future DS Ramsden, who has spent months tormenting her biological mother and resenting her adoption.
It all kicked off when Kim fell victim to a bizarre home intrusion. Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) snuck into Home Farm and stole a USB stick, which contained pictures of the Tate family.
It later transpired that Serena had been acting under instruction of her best pal Thea, who wanted dirt on the Tates.

With Serena covering up the circumstances surrounding Dr Caitlin Todd's (Caroline Harker) death, Ramsden made a deal. She said she'd help with the Todd case if her mate kept to her deal regarding Kim.
More recently, Thea tried to frame her mother for causing the deaths of Dawn Fletcher (Olivia Bromley) and Jimmy King (Nick Miles), and reported her to social services for selling Joe Tate's (Ned Porteous) child. What Thea didn't realise was that the baby was actually living in a remote cottage with Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) until Joe could accept being a father.
To Kim and Graham's horror, the baby was kidnapped on Sunday. The person responsible insisted that the police weren't involved, though Kim turned to Thea for help when she unexpectedly turned up on her doorstep.

Before long, Kim became convinced that Thea was the culprit - unaware that Graham had found Joe holding the child. She desperately tried to outrun the copper, and during their scuffle, Thea was stabbed.
In today's episode, Kim guided her into the hospital and announced to the nearby staff that she needed immediate medical treatment. She couldn't help but worry when the nurse said the police would have to be called.
Fortunately, Thea survived. She was asleep in a side ward when Kim entered the room and sat down beside her. She took a look at her drivers license and discovered that her full name is "Anthea". This was the moment in which Kim realised that she'd likely just injured her own daughter.

When Thea's eyes opened, she saw Kim standing over her. Now was the time to come clean.
Mother and daughter shared an emotional exchange, talking about how their lives had been since they were last together 27 years ago. Kim said she'd tried to block the incident from her mind, and that the only reason she'd given Thea up for adoption was because she was on the run.
If she'd taken Thea and elder son Jamie with her, there was a chance she'd lose them both.
Kim recalled the moment that she handed Thea over to her adoptive mother, saying that it was immediately evident that she was in the right hands.

Although Thea agreed, she also spoke about how her adoptive father had never shown a paternal instinct, and that when her mum died shortly after her 7th birthday, he clearly resented her.
Later, when Serena arrived to check on her mate, Thea said she was having doubts about reporting Kim for the stabbing and that she felt like there had been a breakthrough. Although there was a lot of water under the bridge, this could be a way of moving forward.
Will Kim and Thea ever see eye to eye?
