Dr Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) loves a murder mystery in Emmerdale – but this week's event has got off to a sour start.

Viewers will recall that earlier this year, during the Corriedale crossover, Liam and partner Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) were on their way back from a themed night at the Chariot Square Hotel. While not explicitly her cup of tea, she was happy to indulge for his sake.
He attended another soiree last week with Claudette Anderson (Flo Wilson) and Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker), with Chas accusing the latter of having an affair with Liam.
An argument ensued when Liam branded her a terrible investigator and bad actress, and Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) advised his cousin to organise her own event, in the hope that she could prove his assumptions wrong.
In today's episode, Paddy Dingle (Dominic Brunt) strolled into his veterinary practice and found poor Mary Goskirk (Louise Jameson) dead on the operating table. There was a knife driven through her back, and Paddy rushed out into the street to alert his neighbours.

Liam and Chas were conveniently walking by, and headed inside to discover that the 'corpse' was very much alive.
The 'death' was all planned by Chas, who escorted her bemused partner back to The Woolpack to explain what was going on. A number of other residents got in on the fun, though Liam struggled to show enthusiasm for the proceedings.
The clues were blatantly written by Mary, and it was evident that Chas hadn't thought about how the day would pan out.

Feeling gloomy, Liam headed to Tenant House and welcomed in a man that was banging on the door. He was convinced that the fella, Dave (Nick Pearce), was part of the game. When Dave produced some cable ties, Liam allowed him to tie his hands together in the hope it would bring a quick end to the 'mystery'.
When Dylan arrived, the thug charged across the room and asserted that he knew the teenager had dobbed him into the police, and now he wanted revenge.
He warned that a murder would take place – but it wouldn't be a mystery.
Will Dylan and Liam be OK?
