The guesthouse guru, and presenter of The Hotel Inspector, is swapping grotty hotels for the beautiful sites of the Med. New four-part Channel 5 show Alex Polizzi’s Secret Italy will see her indulging in iconic cities such as Venice, Milan and Rome. Travelling from North to South, Polizzi will also visit the pretty Amalfi coast and finish her journey in Puglia.
En route, the formidable ‘fixer’ will show her softer side, and tell personal stories about her family heritage. “This series is a sort of homage to my grandparents and the different regions of Italy they came from,” said the presenter, who’s part of a long line of hoteliers (her grandfather being Lord Forte). “I spent years living in Italy in my twenties, and this was an amazing opportunity to revisit the sites of so many family holidays and celebrations, as well as discovering some new wonders along the way,” she said.
Polizzi will attempt to show a different side to the destination we know and love. “We also see a different side to Alex Polizzi,” explained Ben Frow, director of programming at Channel 5. Secret Italy will be “a personal and emotional side that lifts the spirit and warms the heart,” said Frow.
Viewers will be introduced to delicious food and drink, and colourful characters in the places she visits, as well as lip-biting locations. “The series will be a real treat for the Channel 5 viewer,” said Dan Adamson, director of programmes, Twofour Broadcast.
Alex Polizzi’s Secret Italy is expected to air on Channel 5 in 2015.
