Emma Watson took one giant leap for feminists earlier this week, inviting men to sign up to UN Women’s #HeForShe campaign.

“How can we affect change in the world when only half of it is invited or feel welcome to participate in the conversation?” she asked a packed room of delegates. “Men – I would like to take this opportunity to extend your formal invitation. Gender equality is your issue, too.” 

Her call to arms certainly worked, and in the days since, both men and women have taken up the mantle, signing up for the UN initiative aimed at getting men involved in the prevention of violence against women. 

Nearly 130,000 men have joined the campaign – and among them some faces you might recognise…
