According to Leonardo DiCaprio, he has a “huge fear of sharks”. So, perhaps climbing into a cage and swimming with them wasn’t the best idea, although we’re sure he didn’t bank on one of the carniverous predators leaping into the cage with him. Unfortunately for him, that’s exactly what happened…
Promoting his new film The Wolf of Wall Street on The Ellen Show, the 39-year-old actor shared details of his scary experience with one particularly vicious great white shark while he filmed Blood Diamond in South Africa back in 2006.
“I actually got stuck in a cage with a great white which was awesome,” he told host Ellen DeGeneres. “It was a gigantic great white and it was in the cage with me.”
When asked how he survived the freak encounter, the actor replied, “I don’t know. They actually said in 30 years, this has never happened but the tuna kind of got stuck on the top of the cage and the great white leapt out and tried to bite it.
“It went into the cage with me and half of its body was in and out. And I flattened down at the bottom and it was this far away and it chomped a few times but I survived it.”
