As part of our 90th birthday celebrations Radio Times is creating a fantasy TV schedule and both BBC1’s Saturday night sensation Doctor Who and much-loved detective reboot Sherlock are on the drama shortlist. But only one can make it onto our ultimate night in.
It’s the Doctor vs Sherlock Holmes. The humanity-saving timelord vs the ultimate crime solver. Matt Smith vs the Cumberbatch. Sonic screwdrivers vs super-quick brain power. The Tardis vs 221b Baker Street. The companions vs Watson. All of space and time vs Holmes’ hunting ground of modern day London.
Of course, in the unlikely event that you’re neither a Whovian or a Cumberfan, other options are available.
Hit ITV period drama Downton Abbey and crime sensation Broadchurch have made the list too, as has the 1995 Pride and Prejudice, Brideshead Revisited, EastEnders, Prime Suspect, Bleak House, Coronation Street, Cracker, Edge of Darkness, House of Cards, Inspector Morse, The Jewel in the Crown, Life on Mars, Our Friends in the North, State of Play, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and Upstairs Downstairs.
Ellie is an entertainment, TV and film journalist writing news and (hopefully incredibly witty) comment for RadioTimes.com. She loves light-hearted dramas and glossy US series - and is more than a little bit obsessed with Downton Abbey. Foodie, sun-seeker and aspiring novelist in her own time. Likes the fact that her name rhymes with telly.
