Summary

Rumours of an undercover police officer on the wing threaten to disrupt Rose's first day back.

Review

David Brown

A second stretch behind bars wouldn’t ordinarily be anyone’s idea of a good time, but viewers who caught the first run of this likeable prison drama will welcome its return tonight.

That said, anyone expecting a warm welcome back to C Wing is in for a disappointment, as there’s suspicion and paranoia in the darting eyes of both staff and inmates. The reason? Well, rumour has it that there’s an undercover police officer masquerading as one of the convicts, and not even supervisor Leigh (Nina Sosanya) knows their identity.

Also looking on edge in this latest series is newcomer Patrick (Lee Ingleby), a one-time civil servant who doesn’t feel he has anything in common with the men in his neighbouring cells. “Yes, you have, you’re a prisoner,” says officer Gary (Stephen Wight), offering up a cheery smile that certainly isn’t reciprocated.

His words are meant to serve as a leveller and, soon enough, Patrick is trying to prove his worth to those with whom he’s incarcerated…
