With season finales, I’m of the belief that TV writers need to deliver on promises. Gratification ought not to be deferred any longer. Rather, plotlines must be smashed together at the speed of particles in the Large Hadron Collider. Thankfully, this last episode is high-impact stuff, with the inmates discovering the identity of the undercover police officer, who himself unmasks the killer he’s been seeking behind bars.

But there are thoughtful moments too amid the snarling stand-offs, with the visit by a hard-line “prison works” government minister (it’ll take you all of two seconds to work out who she’s modelled on) allowing for pertinent reflections on punishment, rehabilitation and the limitations of the system. We can but hope that writer and creator Rob Williams doesn’t get parole and is commissioned to come up with another series.
