Episode 7: Kids' Banking

Summary

The candidates are tasked with designing and launching a new educational banking app and accompanying money box for six-to-nine-year-olds, which must then be pitched to industry heavyweights. It's all fun-no-facts for one team while, on the other, a lack of synergy spells disaster. Aides Karren Brady and Tim Campbell monitor events and after a showdown in the boardroom, Lord Sugar withdraws another contender from the process

Review

Frances Taylor

In a brick-walled warehouse, investors sit in leather chairs armed with notebooks and pens as nervous wannabe entrepreneurs stutter over their investment pitches. You’d be forgiven for thinking the BBC had accidentally scheduled a Dragons’ Den double bill, but no: the candidates just happen to be in bizarrely familiar surroundings as they deliver proposals for money-saving apps aimed at children aged six to nine.

The banking bigwigs look set to say “I’m out” when hit with one team’s muddled mythical concept and the other’s “babyish” (as one of the kids in the focus group puts it) offering. And things don’t get much better in the boardroom after a candidate boldly asks for more feedback — and promptly regrets.
