Summary
Action adventure starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell. Five years after a storm-chasing tragedy involving a group of her friends, meteorologist Kate joins a team investigating unusual tornado activity in Oklahoma. There, they encounter a rival posse of "tornado wranglers" led by the cocky Tyler, who clashes with Kate as the "twisters" intensify.

This disaster movie is a serviceable if naggingly undercooked follow-up to the 1996 hit Twister. Daisy Edgar-Jones stars as Kate, a tornado expert working a desk job in New York five years after a storm-chasing tragedy. After she is tempted into rejoining a team investigating rare twister activity in Oklahoma, Kate's crew clashes with a posse of cocky "tornado wranglers", fronted by YouTube star Tyler (Glen Powell). It's a given that Kate and Tyler will bond, and director Lee Isaac Chung rarely draws any tension from their slow-building connection. As with his earlier film Minari, however, Chung's feel for landscape, community and casting holds firm. Besides the charismatic Powell and likeable Edgar-Jones, the sturdy supporting performers (including Anthony Ramos, Sasha Lane and David Corenswet) do well to make us care who survives when the admittedly impressive storms hit. Even if the plot is merely a loose string of set pieces, those titular funnels of dread level locations with fearsome power, turning a half-baked blockbuster into a fitfully bracing spectacle.
