Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

James Woods gives a wonderfully laconic performance as a vampire slayer on the Vatican payroll in this rip-roaring western horror flick from director John Carpenter. Woods is out to destroy a 600-year-old bloodsucker before the evil creature gets his hands on an ancient relic that will enable him to appear during daylight hours. Carpenter laces the suspense and splatter with agreeable humour and arty special effects, and there's smart support from Sheryl Lee as the psychic link to the undead leader. A well-wrapped horror package from a master of the macabre.
