The first official pictures from Benedict Cumberbatch’s theatre turn in Hamlet have been released – although the Sherlock star seems to have overdone it on the anti-ageing cream.
Cumberbatch will play the title role in Lyndsey Turner’s production of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, which will begin performances at the Barbican Theatre on 5 August 2015, with opening night on 25 August at 7pm.
Instead of revealing how Cumberbatch will look as the Prince of Denmark, however, the production have released two teaser images depicting children in the roles.
The iconic tragedy, which famously deals with Hamlet raging against war, family and existential demons, will have a twelve week limited run, concluding on 31 October 2015.
Tickets will go on public sale at 10am on August 11, although priority booking for Barbican members began earlier today. At each performance there will also be 100 seats at £10, positioned throughout the auditorium. These seats will be released for sale at a later date.
