We might currently have a big Downton Abbey shaped hole in our Sunday nights, but never fear. The fifth series of the hit ITV period drama is already well under way.
And it’s set to introduce a cast of lovely new faces to the dramas at Downton, including British stars Richard E Grant and Anna Chancellor.
Withnail and I star Richard E Grant will join the drama as Simon Bricker, a chap who visits the Abbey as a guest of the Granthams. Grant, who is currently starring in Lena Dunham’s hit HBO dramedy Girls, is no stranger to Julian Fellowes’ world of period drama – he starred alongside Maggie Smith, Michael Gambon and Charles Dance in 2001’s Gosford Park.
The Hour and Four Weddings and a Funeral actress Anna Chancellor is also set to guest star as Lady Anstruther. Keen fans of the drama will recognise the name – she’s the woman who Jimmy the Footman previously worked for.
Rade Sherbedgia, who has appeared in Eyes Wide Shut and Taken 2, will also join the drama as Kuragin, a Russian refugee who have fled to Britain following the Russian revolution.
Downton’s Executive Producer Gareth Neame has said: “We are delighted to welcome these talented actors to the world of Downton. The characters they play are set to bring yet more excitement and intrigue to the show.”
The fifth series of Downton Abbey will also welcome back Dame Harriet Walter and Peter Egan, who played Lady Shackleton and Lord Flintshire respectively.
Downton Abbey will return for an eight-part series and a Christmas special later this year.
