David Tennant to play lead in US Broadchurch remake – with an American accent

Tennant will reprise his role as the lead investigator in Fox's version of Chris Chibnall's hit crime drama

Broadchurch star David Tennant is to star in the next Broadchurch… the US version.

Reports in the US indicate that the former Doctor Who actor is set to appear in Fox’s US adaptation of the ITV crime drama that took the UK by storm in April.

Tennant will play the drama’s lead investigator just as he did in the British version – but this time he’ll use an American accent.

As with the British version, the US drama centres around the discovery of a young boy found dead on a beach under a cliff-face.

Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall is executive producing, and writing the opening episode.

Fox announced the new version in August, with filming expected to begin in January and the series set to air at the end of 2014 and beginning of 2015.

Meanwhile, British viewers are awaiting series two of Broadchurch – but as RadioTimes.com revealed this week, even the stars of the first run don’t know if they’ll appear in series two.

“I could be in all of it. I could be in none of it,” said Jodie Whittaker, who played grieving Mum Beth Latimer.
