Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby – new trailer

The Romeo + Juliet director's remake of F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1920s bestseller stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire

If the latest trailer for Baz Luhrmann’s big-budget adaptation of The Great Gatsby is anything to go by, cinema-goers are in for a treat when it’s released next summer.

The latest two-and-a-half minute teaser combines Luhrmann’s trademark glitzy extravagance and atmospheric music with new scenes of protagonist Jay Gatsby’s background and his illicit affair with childhood sweetheart Daisy Buchanan. His lavish remake of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s bestselling novel was shot in 3D in Australia last year and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire and Isla Fisher.

The director of Moulin Rouge and Romeo + Juliet is known for his flamboyant visuals and his depiction of 1920s New York is highly-anticipated by both critics and fans – especially since it was pushed back from its original Christmas Day release date to 17 May 2013.
