Summary

Emma Willis returns with the junior version of the talent contest, with coaches Ronan Keating, Danny Jones, Pixie Lott and will.i.am on the judging panel. Youngsters between the ages of seven and 14 take to the stage in a bid to impress the star coaching panel in the blind auditions and get those red chairs turning

Review

Frances Taylor

For an hour and a half of television devoid of cynicism, sadness or mean-spiritedness, you could do a lot worse than The Voice Kids. Whether a chair turns or not, coaches will.i.am, Pixie Lott, Ronan Keating and Danny Jones beam with positivity, buoying the kids’ confidence and being unfalteringly kind and supportive. It’s unabashedly joyful and the antithesis of the talent-show shtick of the early noughties. It is also (whisper it) better than its grown-up counterpart.

The first Blind Auditions of a new series include a young harpist and a girl performing her own song. There’s also 14-year-old Oscar, who is already known to millions for his acting: many moons ago, he played “Neil the baby” in Gavin & Stacey.
