The Right Thing: The Arab Holocaust Museum

Summary

Mike Wooldridge hears lawyer Khaled Kasab Mahameed's story about opening the first Arab-led Holocaust museum and how he found himself the target of criticism

Review

Jeremy Aspinall

All credit to Khaled Kasab Mahameed, a lawyer from Nazareth who 20 years ago opened what is believed to be the first-ever Arab-led Holocaust Museum. Its purpose: to open the eyes of his fellow Arabs to the trauma of the Holocaust while reminding Jewish Israelis of the suffering of his own Palestinian people.

Khaled talks to Mike Wooldridge about a project borne out of idealism and a deep-seated belief that God wants peace, but one that also drew criticism from both sides of the religious divide. With the museum now closed and the conflict between the two sides now fiercer than ever, was Khaled’s initiative the right thing to take on?
