“You are such a breath of fresh air — I’ve been waiting for two people like you for years,” Dragon Peter Jones tells one set of entrepreneurs who, unusually, explain that financial investment isn’t critical to them and their business. They’re more interested in tapping into the Dragons’ expertise.

It’s not the only unorthodox pitch in this first episode of the new series. There’s also a sock manufacturing company set up to employ people with learning disabilities. No spoilers but it’s a heart-warming pitch that ends up with smiles all round and Sara Davies dancing with one of them. Maybe the Dragons are turning into pussycats.

There have been 19 Dragons since the first episode was broadcast in 2005. Two more — Gary Neville and Emma Grede — join the current line-up later in the run.
