Episode 1: Grantchester

Summary

It's 1958 in Grantchester, and the vicarage family and the Keatings are on a much-needed summer break at Merries Holiday Camp - only for it to turn into something of a busman's holiday for Will and Geordie, when the camp's owner Roy Reeves is found dead in suspicious circumstances. Between unhappily married guests, frustrated entertainment staff and Roy's put-upon wife, Will and Geordie discover almost everyone had a grudge against Roy. Behind the smiles and jolly holiday façade of Merries lays a much less wholesome reality

Review

Detective Inspector Geordie Keating (Robson Green) issues a warning at the start of this sixth series: “No talking about work. We’re on holiday.” It’s now 1958 and he, his family and the vicarage regulars have all taken themselves off to the cheery Merries Holiday Park, but before anyone can give a cry of “Hi-de-hi!”, we find homicide putting a halt to any chance of rest and recuperation.
Bumptious and boorish camp owner Roy Reeves (Andy Nyman) has been murdered, so obviously Geordie and his partner in crime-solving Rev Will Davenport (Tom Brittney) decide to stick their noses in. But thank goodness they do, as it’s a case that very much plays to Grantchester’s strengths, what with this seemingly innocent world of chalets, pedal boats and lovely-legs contests masking something altogether more sinister.
And when it comes to curate Leonard Finch (Al Weaver), events here may just end up sparking a scandal that could erupt once he returns to that sleepy English village on the River Cam…
