Summary

No flights, no phones - and one high-stakes, low-budget race to the finish. On a globe-spanning adventure of a lifetime, which pair will cross the line first?

Episode 6: Episode 6

Summary

With over two thirds of the race completed, the teams have made it to the Buddhist hill town McLeod Ganj, but there is no time to rest as sixth checkpoint Sasan Gir awaits. Located 1,900km south in the western state of Gujarat, the village provides a gateway to the expansive Gir National Park. Rich with flora and fauna, the forest is the last remaining habitat for the mighty Asiatic lion, which roam freely and even sometimes venture into the local neighbourhoods

Review

Jane Rackham

There’s 33 hours between the leaders (even they were astonished to reach the checkpoint first) and the bottom pair. But while they’re all aware that this is a race (1,900km through Rajasthan to Sasan Gir in Gujarat this time), their experiences are becoming increasingly more important to them.

They’ve also learnt a lot about themselves: brothers Brian and Melvyn say they’ve bonded enough to share a nursing home “when we’re older”; sisters Elizabeth and Letitia feel able to talk frankly about their childhood; Fin and Sioned recognise their strengths and weaknesses; while Caroline is in awe of son Tom. The race to that checkpoint is as thrilling as ever, though.
