A rich tapestry of Mexican folklore, family heritage and charming creepiness, this mariachi musical marvel finds Pixar once more at the top of its animation game. With his shoemaker kin banning him from becoming a musician due to ancestral indiscretions, young Miguel (voiced by Anthony Gonzalez) steals a sacred guitar from a crypt and enters the Land of the Dead to find his true legacy. The range of enjoyment here is breathtaking, as this triumphant treat highlights vibrant visuals with gorgeous detailing, clever skeletal dexterity on the fun side of ghoulish and a winning tribute to the golden age of Latino cinema. Kids will adore the psychedelic spirit creatures, the candy-coloured chihuahuas and other innovative spectral delights; adults the sophisticated gags relating to artist Frida Kahlo and the Santo wrestling genre. Ending on a teary-eyed note in now classic Pixar fashion, this is a quality and magical must-see family attraction.
