Episode 1/9
The staff must face the devastating consequences of series one's cliffhanger ending. Will life at the hospital ever be the same? Mac lies in a coma, unaware of the stream of visitors to his bedside. Tongues wag about Joanna and Guy's encounter, while Martin and Karen do some tongue-wagging of a different kind.

In much the same way that zeitgeist-capturing rock bands face that crucial, Difficult Second Album, TV comedies that instantly win hearts with a sublimely inspired debut face the inevitable Difficult Second Series. Green Wing has an awful lot to live up to after a Bafta-winning 2004 arrival that secured legions of devoted followers who could barely sit up straight for laughing.
Judging by the first episode, the pressure to succeed once more has taken its toll on the writing team. There are still moments of inspired silliness, and the cast is terrific and obviously working its heart out. But something is missing. Maybe there's just too much plot, and things feel hamstrung by the need to develop the characters. That said, there's still much to enjoy.

Guy struggles to adapt to public transport, Joanna battles stress and nicotine cravings, and Caroline tries to reignite Mac's interest in her. Meanwhile, Sue's in for a shock when she discovers the identity of the life model at her art class.
-
Episode 5/9
Alan hires a voice coach as he makes a foray into local politics, but will the voters take to his policies? Martin also finds a new (and unusual) sideline, while Harriet and Lyndon thwart Joanna's attempts to sabotage their date. Holly has jaw-dropping news for Mac, which sends Caroline to new housemate Guy for comfort.
-
Episode 6/9
Joanna's plan to bring smug Statham down a peg or two goes drastically wrong. Keen to find out more about his father, Martin hires a private detective - but may regret this move when he hears the investigator's findings. -
Episode 7/9
The need to cover up the murder brings Joanna and Alan closer together, while Sue discovers Holly's also been keeping a secret. Meanwhile, Martin is suddenly feeling flush.
-
Episode 8/9
Sue "gives birth", but Mac receives even more shocking news. Caroline's feeling popular as no fewer than three men come to her with proposals, while Harriet's marriage is in trouble after her husband finds out about Lyndon. Joanna and Alan begin to crack under the pressure of keeping their crime secret - leading to a distinct sense of déjà vu for Martin.

It's the final episode of Green Wing and we're assured there will be fireworks. No decision has yet been taken on a third series, but let's hope there is one. This is too priceless a comedy treasure to let go.

Episode 9/9 Green Wing Special
While Mac is staring death in the face, Statham and Joanna are still on the run, and embark on an accidental killing spree. Karen's fall from the office window has radically changed her personality - she's now confident, chic and sexy - and with Joanna away, the office girls turn feral. Meanwhile, Caroline and Guy are engaged to be married. But will their wedding go ahead?
RT Choice (David Butcher, 4 January 2007)
Tonight, and probably for the last time, Green Wing floats us off to its helium-filled world of strangeness. Once you're on its wavelength, this comedy can elicit howling belly laughs like no other. Not everyone enjoys the stop-start editing and woozy music, but for my money they only add to the joy. Green Wing's sublime comic acting and a vein of shrieking madness in the writing make it very hard to beat.
